Automation

Process Control and Automation is an integral part of today’s facilities. Automation in facilities provides consistent and predictable production. This assists operations in maintaining the facility and reduces process upsets while increasing plant availability.  Process Automation supports operators in maintaining safe process, while keeping profitability.

Automation in facilities consists of 3 major components: Inputs, Controllers, and output devices. Inputs are the monitoring and measurement devices installed throughout. Modern controllers are typically microprocessor based and include Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCSs), and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs). Output devices are the end devices that can be manipulated, this can range from Automated Valves/Motors/ and Indicators lights. All three components required for automation are equally important and require attention from design to commissioning.

EPI&C has extensive experience and knowledge in Design and Operation of all the major automation components. From selecting the correct flow element for our measurement skids, to configuring a DCS to accommodate our Analyzer Buildings. EPI&C provides practical experience combined with technical expertise that can meet any project needs.

Process optimization reduces facility operating costs my maximizing efficiency. Process Optimization via Automation requires detailed understanding and familiarity of how the equipment / facility operates. Our team has experience in the operation of various of types process facilities and packaged equipment. We can assist in determining process control issues and define the proper control objectives. Our company has accompanied operators in various facilities to help correct automation  designs, and executed projects from Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) to Commissioning and Startup. EPI&C has successfully reduced plant operating costs through tuning and implementing our Combustion Control System to optimize the combustion process.

Process facilities and packaged equipment utilize automation to maintain safe operation for personnel, environment and equipment. This is achieved by conducting risk analysis like a Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), Hazard Identification Study (HAZID), or What-If Analysis. The EPI&C team has a number of Safety Professionals that can assist at all stages of design and engineering. We have experience in a various number of Safety PLCs and have successfully integrated safety related processors in new and existing facilities. Our packaged Burner Management System can provide SIL rated loops at varying levels.
