Combustion Optimization

Burner Management Systems

A Burner Management System (BMS) is used to ensure a safe start up and maintain operation within safe limits. The system verifies instrument statuses, permissive, and safe purge conditions before allowing the fired equipment to start. During start up, the system checks for proper actuation of the shutoff valves, ignition of the fuel, and detection of the flame.

Combustion equipment safety is necessary for the daily operation of a facility but more importantly, it is critical for the safety of employees and prevention of property damage. At the same time there is a need for system operability, reliability, and cost effectiveness. These are the cornerstones of EPI&C’s burner management system (BMS) designs.

Our systems are designed to API 556, AS 3814, CSA B149.3, EN 298, ISO 13577, NFPA 85, NFPA 86, or NFPA 87 /86/87standards.

Our packaged BMS solutions enable direct configuration of the system directly from a secure operator interface panel, without the need for modification of the program itself.

Combustion Control Systems

A combustion control system (CCS) is tasked with the monitoring and adjustment of the firing rate of the fired equipment. It is a regulatory control system separate from the safety focused Burner Management System.

The system can be configured as a simple closed loop control or to more intricate systems incorporating continuous monitoring of combustion gases to oxygen (O2) and carbon monoxide (CO).  Combustion optimization will result in overall equipment efficiencies, reduced fuel usage and cost, and reduction of GHG emissions.

The systems maybe designed and configured to provide improved levels of efficiency integrating various control strategies and options; including single point positioning, parallel positioning, fully metered (cross limiting), and O2 trim.

Our packaged CCS solution enables direct configuration of the system directly from a secure operator interface panel, without the need for modification of the program itself.
